The following is the NextGen sermon delivered by our NextGen Ministry Superintendent Grace Cho this past Sunday, October 11, 2015. We were so excited by the message that we wanted to share it with the whole community! Even though the message was delivered to our students, I think it’s one we all need to hear:
Zephaniah 3:17
The Lord your God is with you.
He is the Mighty Warrior who saves.
He will take great delight in you.
In his love he will no longer punish you.
Instead, he will sing for joy because of you.
Last week, Pastor Dan talked about how we sing to someone that we care about (like Uncle Ethan singing to Ian emo!) and that’s why we sing to God. This week, we are going to talk about a time when God sings. In Zephaniah 3:17, God sings for joy because of you!
Have you ever been so happy that you just burst out in song?
How about making others happy? Have you guys ever made other people happy? What did you do?
Now you guys know that God is our Heavenly Father, right? So he’s our daddy in heaven. How about our parents on earth. Do you make them happy? What are some examples of how you make them happy?
Let’s talk about what makes God, our dad in heaven, happy.
This is a picture that Uncle Jin took, and he named it Creation. On the second day when God created the earth, he separated the water and skies. I think this picture kind of shows what it would have looked like on that 2nd day. Isn’t it beautiful? God saw what he made and he said it was good. And that made him happy. We know that in the next several days, God made land…
And then plants…
And animals…
Let’s go up a few verses in Zephaniah to see some examples of what we can do to make God happy.
12 But inside your city I will leave
those who are not proud at all.
Those who are still left alive will trust in the Lord.
13 They will not do anything wrong.
They will not tell any lies.
They will not say anything to fool other people.
They will eat and lie down in peace.
And no one will make them afraid.”
So from those verses, what are some things we can do to make God happy?
[Be humble (don’t brag), don’t lie, trust God, don’t trick people.]
What else, that’s not in these verses can we do to make God happy?
[Jesus Creed]
When you do these things, love God, trust God, and love your neighbor, it makes God so happy that he sings for joy because of you.
